About PortablePowerCalc
PortablePowerCalc is a small, independent site with free calculators and plain-English guides for sizing portable power stations, batteries and solar panels.
Why this site exists
Buying backup power is surprisingly confusing. Spec sheets mix watts, watt-hours, amp-hours and surge ratings. A lot of online advice is written to sell a particular product. And a wrong guess is expensive: either a unit too small to run what you need, or hundreds of dollars spent on capacity you'll never use.
We built simple tools that show their working. Every calculator displays the formula and the assumptions behind it, so you can check the result and adjust it for your own equipment.
Who's behind it
PortablePowerCalc is an independent project run by a small editorial team. We're not electricians or solar installers, and we don't pretend to be. Our job is to explain well-established formulas and published specifications clearly, and to test that our calculators produce correct results. For permanent wiring, grid-tied solar, or anything connected to your home's electrical panel, consult a licensed electrician.
How the content is made
Our guides are researched and drafted with the help of AI writing tools, then checked by a person: formulas are verified, calculator outputs are tested against hand calculations, and claims are compared with manufacturer documentation and reputable public sources. Full details are in our editorial policy.
How the site is funded
The site is free to use and may display advertising. In the future, some pages may contain affiliate links, which would be clearly labeled. Advertising and affiliate relationships never change a calculator's results.
